WORKSHOPS

EXPLORING THE YOGA OF EATING
THROUGH PHOENIX RISING YOGA THERAPY

a series of six Sunday workshops investigating our relationship to food

What will happen in the workshops?
The workshops will consist of yoga, meditation and groupwork, with a focus on looking at our emotions and thought processes around the ways we nourish ourselves. We will also be using tools such as drawing and writing to help us connect with what’s going on inside us. Through the group circle we will offer each other a supportive space in which we can share our experiences, if we choose to, without fear of judgement.

Who are the workshops for?
You dont need to be fit or flexible or to have experience of yoga to take part in these workshops; you just need to be willing to be present to yourself and others as we look at our experience around eating. Whether you are simply interested in investigating your relationship with food or you have a clinical eating disorder, you are equally welcome

What is Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy?
Phoenix Rising is an inspirational mind/body therapy in which yoga postures and techniques from person-centred psychotherapy are used to explore the inner landscape and create a deeper sense of self-awareness. Our groupwork will be based on this process.

Workshop leaders
Ali Glenny and Jacky Garstin are both certified Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapists and yoga teachers.

GENERAL INFORMATION

YOGA MATS AND BAGS AT A DISCOUNT
You can buy an ecoyoga mat from me at a much lower price than in the shops or over the internet. The mats I currently have are slight seconds (some minor marking on the underside) and are priced accordingly. All the mats are completely usable, with the same grip and thickness as full-quality mats. Made of latex and jute, ecoyoga mats are not only practical for all sorts of bodies and yoga practices, but are also biodegradable. Cost £16.

The mat bags are made from a strong waterproof fabric by Yogamalai in south India. They come in a variety of beautiful colours and have an internal pocket (for keys etc.) and an adjustable shoulder strap. Yogamalai is a group of women and men working to support their families (no factories or bosses). The bags are fairly traded. Cost £10.

Please contact me for pictures and more information.

FEE POLICY
Regular concessions are offered to people on an income of less than £200 gross a week. This is a little flexible either way, depending on whether you are supporting others financially and whether you are partly supported by someone else (for example a partner with a higher income) please use your honest judgement. No proof of income is necessary; however, I ask you to be aware of the following money yoga:

• Classes have to be financially viable if they are to continue to run.
• The giving and receiving of yoga teaching and therapy revolves around a balanced exchange of energies.
• Teaching is the way I make my living.

In addition to regular concessions, there are also a number of extra-low-cost places available for those who are on a very low income and would not ordinarily be able to afford to attend a yoga class, even at the concessionary rate. To claim one of these places, please contact me before coming to class. You don’t need to show proof of income; however, I do ask you to respect the principle of honesty on which the places are offered.

TRAVEL TO CLASSES
All the venues are within ten minutes of frequent rail/DLR and bus connections. The first principle of yoga is ahimsa – ‘non-violence’ – an important aspect of which is looking after the environment and taking responsibility for the consequences of our actions upon it. If at all possible, please leave your car at home and use public transport, cycle or walk to class. Thank you.

To know the way and not practise is to be a soup ladle in the pot and not taste the flavour of the soup.”—Buddhist saying

A stiff body has a good potential for learning yoga.”—Saraswati Rangaswamy
